東北各邦算是印度人心中的敏感詞之一了，印度東北八邦，包括阿薩姆邦、梅加拉亞邦、米佐拉姆邦、那加蘭邦、曼尼普爾邦、特里普拉邦、錫金邦以及印度目前實(shí)際控制的我國藏南地區(qū)(印度人稱之為“阿魯納恰爾邦”)。
從人種上看，印度東北人皮膚發(fā)黃，毛發(fā)不像其他印度人種濃密，從民族來講，當(dāng)?shù)囟鄶?shù)人與緬甸、我國西藏有較強(qiáng)的同源性，他們自稱是中國后裔，崇拜龍圖騰，喜歡中國文化，很多當(dāng)?shù)厣裨?、傳說源自中國如牛郎織女，他們自稱與中國有不解之緣。當(dāng)?shù)赜《冉痰挠绊懸蚕鄬^弱，與印度腹地的情況大相徑庭。
實(shí)際上，東北印度本來就是漢藏民族的地方，歷史上跟印度本土是雞犬相聞，老死不相往來。在英國人來以前，這個地方基本上是一些各自獨(dú)立的小國。印度人的勢力在歷史上就從來沒到過這里?，F(xiàn)在這個區(qū)域?qū)儆谟《龋耆菤v史上英國人行政劃分的結(jié)果。
英國先征服印度，再以印度為基礎(chǔ)向外擴(kuò)張。向東擴(kuò)張征服了東北印度和緬甸。
